As the world leader in experiential learning, Northeastern University is committed to protecting the environment through its actions in teaching, research and service activities.

Our Environmental Policy is to be a leader among institutions of higher education in taking responsible actions to protect the environment. As an urban institution, we are particularly invested in taking a leadership role in addressing environmental challenges shared by urban centers all over the world. We are committed to complying with accepted environmental practices, including the commitment to meet or exceed applicable legal and other requirements, to strive for continual improvement in our environmental management system, and to minimize the creation of wastes and pollution. We will, therefore, manage our teaching, our research, and our various service activities in order to reduce the environmental impacts associated with our work.

In moving forward our leadership in environmental protection our objectives will be to:

• Reduce the use of hazardous and toxic chemicals
• Reduce, reuse, and recycle solid and hazardous wastes
• Improve the efficiency of energy usage
• Conserve natural resources and support sustainable practices
• Conduct affairs in ways which safeguard the environmental health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and members of the broader community
• Implement pollution prevention measures across campus
• Support the environment through our research and academic offerings
• Achieve climate neutrality to eliminate our global warming impact
